Five MT5 features most traders never touch

Strategy Tester, market depth, custom symbols, alerts and the trade-history filter. Tools that ship in every MT5 install but stay invisible until someone shows you how they work.
MetaTrader 5 has been around long enough that most traders assume they know what's in it. They don't. Five features ship in every install and stay unused by 80%+ of users — each one fixable in 90 seconds.
1. Strategy Tester (View → Strategy Tester)
Drop in any EA you've written or downloaded and run it against historical tick data — multi-threaded, with optimization and walk-forward modes. Most traders never test before deploying. The Strategy Tester takes 60 seconds to learn and saves accounts.
2. Market Depth (Right-click any symbol → Depth of Market)
Real Level-2 depth on FX, indices and metals. See the size sitting at each price level before you click buy. Sounds basic. Most retail traders have never opened the panel.
3. Custom symbols (View → Symbols → Custom)
Build a synthetic spread or ratio symbol — e.g. "EUR/USD relative to gold" — and chart it like any other instrument. Useful for pairs trading, basis spreads and quick relative-value visuals.
4. Alerts on indicators (Right-click → Alert)
Set price-level alerts directly from a chart. Works with custom indicators too. Pushes a notification to the mobile app the moment your level breaks — no need to watch the screen.
5. Trade history filter (History tab → right-click → Custom Period)
Filter your trade history by date, symbol or magic number. Critical for reconciling EA performance vs manual trades when both run on the same account.
